For this collection, I turned to my studio library. One of my most treasured references is Royal Silks — a study of historic Swedish royal textiles published by the Swedish Royal Armoury — which examines the weave structures of garments like Queen Sofia Magdalena's coronation gown. It is not the gold crowns that draw me in, but the drawdowns of the binding weaves beneath them. Unexpectedly geometric, almost architectural — the practical infrastructures of impractical fabrics.

These patterns became the starting point for Sparre, Berg, Grunda, and Struktur. The épinglé weave structure — a durable textured loop pile, richly dimensional and hardwearing — became their ideal foundation, letting the geometry speak while adding the softness and longevity that upholstery demands. Woven in Belgium from cotton, each pattern layers four colors in interlocking geometric forms that reward both distance and close inspection.

The names reflect the Swedish inspiration directly: chevron, mountain, foundation, structure. Simple words for patterns with real depth.

Berg — Swedish for 'mountain.' A trellis pattern reinterpreted through layered geometric forms, with contrasting accents that add quiet depth without competing for attention.

Grunda — Swedish for 'foundation.' Unassuming from a distance, designed to let other elements lead. Up close, a small-scale check reveals four interwoven colors and layered detail that rewards the closer look.

Sparre — Swedish for 'chevron.' The design began with the binding weave of a 17th century flowered silk liseré — climbing angles interwoven with a subtle diagonal that creates depth and movement.

Struktur — Swedish for 'structure.' Small vertical details anchor a layered horizontal stripe, grounding the pattern with subtle dimensionality that holds its own in any interior.
