Cordwood

There was a time, when my sons were very young, that a wood fire provided most of our heat. Tending a constant fire was new to me, but in time I found my rhythm — carry wood, bank the backlog, rekindle the flame in the cold morning.

Those days are long gone now and I am thrilled to be planted firmly in the modern world. However...there is a lingering, almost primal draw to the hearth, to the scent of the fire, the warm glow, the early morning cold and the sight of cordwood stacked and ready to carry you through the long winter.
